Build 75. Off The Stands
Time to get the car off the stands onto the ground now. I'm happy with how the car has come together and everything seems to be working well. I did another round of testing the brakes with the bleed kit, and also making sure the handbrake is balanced correctly before I put the rear wheels on.
As the handbrake can be engaged now it is easy to put the rear wheels on and torque them up to 87Nm. The front wheels were then put on and then torqued as tight as I could get them in the air. I torqued them properly once the car was down.
Before lowering the car I also removed the nose cone as this would likely get damaged in the process otherwise! The motorbike jack still had a sleeper attached to the bottom, to allow it to reach the height my car was at. I started with the front and gently lowered it down using the motorbike jack, until the front was resting on the lowest setting of the mobile axle stands. I repeated this at the rear as well. Once the car was now lowered to a suitable height I removed the sleeper, and then repeated the process, this time removing the axle stands completely. the front was a struggle because the motorbike jack was too tall to fit underneath so I needed to use my low car jack to finish the job off.
Once it was down, it is very easy to appreciate how low and small these things are, also queue a cheesy grin of me sitting inside the cockpit for the first time whilst it is on the floor!
